The debate on gambling sponsorship has been going on for quite some time. Finally, Premier League football clubs have agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of their matchday shirts. This is the first UK sports league to make this move.

The move follows in-depth consultations involving the league, clubs, and the Department for Culture, Media, and Sports. This is part of the government’s ongoing review of the gambling laws.
Further, the Premier League is collaborating with other sports on the development of a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship. This will assist clubs to move away from shirt-front gambling sponsorship. The collective agreement is expected to commence at the end of the 2025/26 season.
